On doit l’armée de terre cuite de Xi’an à l’empereur Qin, qui ordonna également l’édification de la Grande Muraille de Chine. Il la fit construire comme un mausolée pour continuer son règne au delà de la mort.
Il aura fallu près de 36 ans et quelques 700 000 personnes pour achever l’armée d’argile, qu’on appelle aussi « armée enterrée ».
